Bawdwin Mine JORC Resource For Historic Mine. The Bawdwin mine is one of the most historic mines in Myanmar and remains a world-class mineral deposit. Valentis developed and managed a resource drilling program that successfully defined the first JORC (2012) compliant resource in Myanmar.


The Bawdwin Zinc Mine is in Shan, Myanmar. The site was first discovered before 1100 by Chinese. Production output of the Bawdwin Zinc Mine was considered to be medium size. Mine operations consist of surface and underground workings. There is one known shaft.

Special Report: Myanmar Metals has plenty of cash in the bank and is continuing to progress regulatory approvals and feasibility study work for its Bawdwin polymetallic mine. Myanmar Government joined a joint-venture with Burma Corporation. The Bawdwin mine was nationalized in 1965 and the name of management has changed form the Peoples’ Bawdwin Industry, Bawdwin Corporation (1970), and No. 1 Mining Enterprise of the Ministry of Mine (1976).

Myanmar believes the “Bawdwin” project — located north-west of Mandalay near the Chinese border — has the potential to emerge as a significant base metals producer. Myanmar needs $35 million in total, although a large chunk of that — $19.1 million — is coming from two shareholders, leaving just the balance of $16 million to be funded through the sharemarket.


As part of the deal, Myanmar Metals paid what it described as a non-refundable deposit of US$1.5 million to Win Myint Mo Industries Co. (WMM). WMM have a mining and production sharing agreement for Bawdwin with Mining Enterprise No. 1, a state owned entity held by the Ministry of Mines.
